Only Natural Pet® is Headed to the X-Games in Aspen

Only Natural Pet is thrilled to sponsor the X-Games in Aspen this weekend! It is the first time that a pet brand has sponsored the event, and it’s a great fit for Only Natural Pet – everyone knows that dogs love the pow pow (that’s short for powder, or fresh snow!) and pet owners who enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle, are definitely interested in natural nutrition. Plus, our retail store in Aspen opened just last month, so this is a great way to introduce our natural, wholesome lifestyle brand with the community and visitors to the X-Games.

When X-Game-goers are not watching snowboarders tear it up on the halfpipe, they can check out world-class canine rescuing demonstrations at the Dog Demonstration Park in Aspen’s Buttermilk Mountain Jan. 26-29. Events include safely burying people in the snow to be located and rescued by the canine team.

And of course, Only Natural Pet will be on site at the Dog Demo Park with samples and a demo of our popular Wholesome Homemade products, dehydrated dog food that becomes a freshly made stew in 10 minutes by just adding water.  This paleo inspired, high protein, low carb dog food is ideal for healthy pets and coincidentally, extreme sports athletes.

Stop by and see us this weekend at the Demo Dog Park in Aspen’s Buttermilk Mountain, or at the Only Natural Pet Aspen store at 416 East Cooper Ave. in the Cooper Ave. pedestrian mall.

Top 5 Resolutions for You AND Your Pet!

It’s a new year, which often signals a fresh start and time to think about your goals for the next 12 months. But here’s a fresh twist on the New Year’s Resolution–why not kill two birds (not really) and make some commitments to your pet parenting and your personal health and wellness? Read on for great ideas for resolutions for you and your pet.

#1 Get Moving

We know, we know. It’s at the top of everyone’s resolution list. But isn’t it more appealing to exercise with your dog, rather than in a gym? Commit to upping your daily walk game – but don’t limit yourself to just walking. Throw in some intervals (walk or run faster for short periods) or some games of catch or even a set of push-ups. It’s good for you, it breaks up the monotony of the walk, and your dog will love time spent with you.

#2 What’s Up Doc?

Chances are, you have health screenings or doctor’s appointments you should make in the New Year. The same is true for your pet. Yearly examinations by your veterinarian are important to good preventive care. Vet visits are also the perfect time to ask for advice, talk about nutrition, or get an expert opinion on any behavioral issues.

#3 Think Outside the Walk

Daily walks are great, but consider going a little bigger. Try hiking, trail running, skijoring (combination of cross country skiing and dog sledding), snow shoeing, kayaking or any other activity that gets you outside and moving! It’s a great way to bond and the physical activity and mental health benefits are great for both  of you.

#4 Primp and Polish

No one wants a stinky pet. Regular grooming – bathing, nail clipping, brushing teeth and coat – will make your pet more pleasant to be around and (bonus!) it’s healthier for your pet. Plus, all that nurturing and daily grooming is a great bonding activity for you and your pet. But pay attention – any skin and coat problems that don’t resolve with regular grooming, please see your veterinarian.

#5 All Work and No Play….

…makes pet parents very dull. More play time is a fun and positive resolution for people and pets! It’s a great stress reliever for you and who doesn’t embrace unconditional love and attention? Cats love the thrill of chasing a laser toy or catnip toys or  fetch toys, and dogs are happy with most any game, like fetch, tug of war, hide and seek. It all works!

Lastly, it’s a New Year so don’t forget to take a moment to be thankful for all you have, especially the beautiful and loving pets who enrich your life every day.

New York! New York!

weareinny

The best-selling author and famed social media photographer The Dogist (aka Elias Weiss Friedman), and Only Natural Pet have partnered for a whirlwind tour of three NYC dog parks.

It was a fantastic turnout and we were so pleased to see more than 250 enthusiastic dog owners at the free mobile photo-op events at three Manhattan parks. We gave out hundreds of Only Natural Pet goodie bags as The Dogist took pics of more than 100 of NYC’s four-legged, furry finest.

smallbeautifulsteps

We are particularly proud to partner with The Dogist in this event because we share a commitment to natural pet health and nutrition, and together we created a lot of buzz. Due to the power of social media and pet nutrition influencers, these events were seen by 2.5 million people. Our Only Natural Pet branded pedi-cab helped to bring a ton of awareness and impressions about the benefits of natural pet nutrition.

Only Natural Pet and The Dogist also share a passion for supporting pet adoption and improving conditions in animal shelters. To that end, everyone at the events could enter a social media sweepstakes for a chance to win a free year’s supply of Only Natural Pet dog food. A donation from Only Natural Pet to an animal shelter will be made in the name of the winner.

Keep Pets Safe When You Deck the Halls!

Whatever you celebrate this season – Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa – chances are your home is transformed with decorations. The lights, the ornaments, the garland – just know that all those shiny and new decorations look like toys to your pet. You don’t need to hold back on the festive trimmings, but pet safety is something to consider during the holidays. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe while you deck the halls.

  • Protecting Sparky from Sparks. Keep wires and cords out of paws reach. A wire can deliver a potentially lethal electrical shock and a punctured battery can cause burns to the mouth and esophagus.
  • O Christmas tree. Your cat will think Christmas came early as soon as your Christmas tree is up, so how do you keep them off the impossible-to-resist tree of their dreams? Consider an artificial tree, as cats tend to find them less appealing. Choose a corner location or put the tree in a room your cat rarely visits. Be sure to get a sturdy tree stand and anchor the tree securely so it doesn’t tip and fall, causing injury to your cat. Also, consider getting kitty an early Christmas gift – a new cat condo or scratcher so she will be less tempted.
  • I love my new water bowl. Do not add any chemicals, aspirin or sugar to the water for your tree, which may poison or cause upset stomachs in your pet. Also, keep the water fresh to avoid stagnation and the release of bacteria.
  • All that glitters. Pets love tinsel and shiny, light-catching decorations. They might also decide that they look delicious. Don’t spend Christmas Eve in your vet’s emergency room. Keep a close eye on Fido and make sure he has plenty of new and interesting chew toys. Avoid glass ornaments, and keep any homemade ornaments, particularly those made from salt-dough or other food-based materials, out of pets’ reach.
  • Like paws to a flame. Never leave a pet alone in an area with a lit candle; consider using flameless candles instead. Pets can easily burn themselves or cause a fire if they knock candles over. Use appropriate candle holders place on a stable surface.
  • Plant danger. Mistletoe, holly, poinsettias, balsam, pine and cedar are all holiday staples, but they can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea if ingested by your pet. Also, many varieties of lilies can cause kidney failure in cats if ingested. Consider using boughs of just-as-jolly artificial plants.

The bottom line – be aware of all the new, tempting decorations in your house and keep a sharp eye on your fur babies, and everyone if your house can enjoy a safe, festive holiday!

Only Natural Pet Celebrates Earth Day with Carbon-Neutral PowerFood™ Line

Natural Pinnacle Brand Founded on Sustainability; Leads Pet Food Industry with Carbon Neutral Products that Help Preserve the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil – Available at 135 PetSmart Stores

Read the whole story at Business Wire.

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, Only Natural Pet today announced that its PowerFood™ dog and cat food line that has been manufactured and distributed in 2016 is 100 percent carbon neutral.

This distinction is made possible through a partnership with Carbon Credit Capital, a company that analyzes the energy consumed by the ingredient processing, manufacturing, packaging and distribution of products and offers carbon offset credits to be purchased by companies and brands. The funds from purchased credits are donated to global climate improvement projects to offset the resulting carbon emissions.

“The process of offsetting a product’s carbon emissions by investing in global sustainability projects is a more common approach in industries such as airline travel or shipping. But, it’s much newer to the consumer packaged goods industry – especially within the pet food industry,” said Marty Grosjean, founder and CEO of Only Natural Pet. “We’re thrilled to be a leading pet food brand that is applying these innovative practices to help improve our environment. And, by also partnering with PetSmart, we can make this sustainable, natural food line available to environmentally conscious pet parents across the U.S.”

Carbon Credit Capital allows brands, products and companies to fund various global projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere. As its global project of choice, Only Natural Pet chose ADPML Portel-Para REDD, a sustainability project located in the Pará region of Brazil. The initiative is helping to preserve the Amazon forest that is at risk of being deforested. The project expects to prevent more than 22 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions from being released into the atmosphere over the course of its lifetime.

Through the PowerFood Carbon Neutral program, in 2016 Only Natural Pet expects to donate more than $10,000 to this sustainability project, offsetting more than 800 metric tons of carbon emissions over the course of the year.

As a founding member of the Pet Industry Sustainability Coalition, Only Natural Pet is committed to sustainability and “green” business practices. The company utilizes wind power, carbon-neutral shipping and sustainable packaging, as well as pursues a zero-waste goal at all its facilities.

PetSmart is the exclusive national retailer for the Only Natural Pet pinnacle natural pet food brand and the product is available now in 135 stores across the nation. PetSmart expects to expand the brand later this year to more stores across the nation and additional products featuring new flavors for dogs and cats.

Demystifying the Paleo Diet for Dogs

With so much buzz surrounding natural pet food these days, it’s hard to really get to the root of the trend. Thankfully, Only Natural Pet has been in the business for over 11 years: natural for us isn’t just a fad, it’s a lifestyle. To help spread the word about the importance of the Paleo Diet for dogs and why it’s helping our dogs live longer, healthier lives, Samantha Randall from Top Dog Tips sat down with Dr. Jean Hofve, Only Natural Pet’s on-staff holistic veterinarian, Marty Grosjean, Only Natural Pet’s founder and CEO, and Eran Cohen, PetSmart’s Chief Customer Experience Officer. Why would she interview a PetSmart representative? Because Only Natural Pet products are available exclusively at PetSmart stores and PetSmart.com.
